The Big Umbrella of Mental Illness: Getting Help? Hiding From It? or Getting Healed.
Mental illness is very multi-faceted because you have the person who doesn't want to believe they are mentally ill and then you have people who are surrounding the mentally ill person and protecting them. Then there are those who are clinging to their mental illness and have given up hope for healing, perhaps because they believe it has been genetically induced.
The terms like "bi-polar" "border-line" "OCD" are new trendy politically correct diagnose-which protect the person from being conscious of the true issue and also getting the help they need and deserve. The diagnosis, like any diagnosis becomes a treatment box and not a healing box.
What we are truly talking about is schizophrenia- Reich describes- at least 7 different layers of it-from as simple as chronically lying to as advanced as hearing voices or developing another personality. He says all of them are curable except those which occurred within the first seven days of life- caused from severe maternal deprivation, abuse, abandonment, etc.
An Orgonomist doctor, that I interviewed believes that as much as 80-90% of the world population have some degree of schizophrenia.
We in society want to believe that there are enlightened individuals- those who have "made" it-and have "arrived"- I put most of these people in the Louise Hay pile, people using their illness to make money and are very manipulative at pulling on our heart strings...with a little bit of personal information and alot of trying to sell themselves as a "god or goddess"-
The truth is- life is an ongoing process-and we will be working on becoming conscious until the day we die- So, the best, we can hope for is "conscious awareness and truthfulness" . I would never knock anyone for being abused or sharing their story-but don't tell me you took a "magic carpet ride" and are now a "Goddess" and want people to worship you as "superhuman" . This is exactly the type of idolatry these people are looking for and I cannot do it.
Nobody escapes mental illness without going through -HARD- work-
Detoxing, the body, the mind-working with others who are honest with them- being honest with themselves-
Clearly the heart of most mental illness is habitual lying to the self. For a parent with a child with these types of disorders- I look at the parent because they hold the key and the answer within themselves
We can say that mental illness has an organic physical core to it, of course, but it is the environment and emotional constitution formed in gestation and the first years of life that cause the physical metabolic imbalances-Even Steiner has blamed solidifying of the left brain intellectual capacities as contributing to metabolic imbalances that don't develop fully until the person is in well into their 40's.
If you are interested in curing mental illness- I suggest reading Reich's Character Analysis- or seeing a qualified Orgonomist-
These are truly the only people who have successfully cured mental illness (I was suffering myself from a form of paranoid schizophrenia ten years ago-really believing everything was going to hurt me-food, water, air-I went from natural holistic living, to psychotic fearful of life person with anxiety attacks...)
Even in my own practice as an ND- I help people to an extent but I know my limits and will help people reach their core by applying Reich's principles, however, I refer people to orgonomists if they are looking to truly release and get to the core of emotional and physical abuse early in life. I have a lot of blogs on these issues on my website..please come and visit-and take my polls which I am gathering information for a new book...
I would also like to include that linking our feelings and issues to disease is the easy part..
Overcoming life long patterns of armors, defenses, and emotional repression is something altogether different.
I see so many people that I could look at and attribute emotional repression to their illness- sort of like shooting fish in a barrel....but telling them that does absolutely nothing for them-because they are not conscious of how or why they do what they do.
The process is one of trust, release, I use color therapy, sound and homeopathic psychotherapy- etc, and if the issue is out of my realm I refer them to an orgonomist.
In my own book I wrote a whole chapter on Hay and Myss..but you can also view part of the chapter on the blog on my website.
I believe Hay has borrowed information from Wilhelm Reich, put a new age twist on it, and called it her own...
I just spoke with Dr. DeMeo and he said that Upledger has done that too with the somato-emotional release.
I love and appreciate Wilhelm Reich's work and sacrifice so much- we need to give credit where credit is due.
If you like case studies of illness and emotion- you can check out the orgonomy.org website in the case study section or you can read the book "Man in the Trap" by Ellsworth Baker...it is pretty scientific in section, because it is written by a doctor but has remained on my top five favorite books for years....
