Hypothyroid: A Common Disorder with Many Different Treatments
I was recently asked about iodine in hypothyroid disorder.
Is it helpful or harmful to take? What do I do as a N.D.? and can it be helped holistically?
Well, Let me first say, that there are radiated dead thyroids, over-taxed thyroids, sluggish thyroids and depressed thyroids.
In regards to iodine;
It is true, most iodine is bad news-
If I use it or recommend it, I only use a mixture of ammonium iodine and iodine called iosol iodine and I get it through Wellness Resources..and would mostly be in cases where the person was loosing lots of hair and had severely chaffed skin.
I am really not into using vitamins, but when I recommend them I usually only go through WR because of their superior quality B12 (they don't use cyanocobalamin), calcium, etc- I use a few of their products..not all...and think that their lectin diet with expensive products is a little too "hype" for my liking.
As an Ayurvedic ND
I treat my clients ayurvedically with a mixture of basma's, homeopathics and color therapy for the thyroid.
This rejuvenates and brings a half dead thyroid back to life.
You won't see me list it often in public forums like this because it is individually complex treatment and takes a few months of working with someone. I like to include some detoxing and other constitutionally correct therapies; when treating disorders such as hypothyroidism, hypo or hypoglycemia, etc.
The body is a systemic system-and while we can gather bits and pieces by surfing the Internet- We initially need to commit ourselves to working with a Naturopath and facilitating an educated guided health care "relationship".
We also need to keep in mind that - everyone's constitution is so different. The chances are often slim to stumble across the right herbs or treatment for you individually. You will also end up spending a lot more in time and money than if you just bit the bullet and invested in constitutional support with a professional.
I make helpful generalizations on my blog but if you are looking for a comprehensive, effective, individual treatment for a specific problem-then please set up an appointment for a one month consultation through my website.
I usually have one set of recommendations for the general public...and then something more detailed for people I work with....
To the Balance,
Aurore
