I had the beginning stages of diabetes-hyperglycemia, about five years ago. This is after I had been on a natural diet for 10 years. 16 years ago I was diagnosed through sugar blood tests with hypoglycemia. I was known to get dizzy and actually pass out, or "swoon". My blood sugar is now in balance and I believe to be healed- I used a mixture of color, sound, herbs, magnetic acupuncture and constitutional homeopathy.
Healthfood stores are filled with an array of blood sugar products. I am seeing Ayurvedic herbs added more and more, specifically Shardunika (gymnema sylvestre) and Tumeric. I find this to be a somewhat useless practice-as many herbs are dependent on the carrier (lassi, oils, ghee, etc) for the specific constitution. Again, I mention, the body is systemic, and Ayurveda retraces the imbalanced doshas by clearing out ama (toxins) in the different organs according to an individuals specific constitution. Seldom can we say that a person's presentation of pancreatic disorders concerning insulin is the one and only cause and problem.
Most insulin/diabetic orders start in the kidney-and I always start with clearing out and strengthing the kidney.
In some cases- I use American herbs-as I appreciate the humble dandelion and recognize the importance to consume herbs that are native species. However, I always take constitution into account and only recommend herbs that will bring the body back in balance and not further from it. I think this maybe a reason why self-diagnosing and self-treatment can be so limiting.
