Caring for Wounds and the Tetanus Vaccine
Lately, I have had several people email me and call me in a panic regarding wounds. It seems that natural holistic thinking goes so far-and then when a child gets hurt or cut, people go back into the medical model in their brain because they are afraid and don't trust their instincts and naturopathy. Before, I get started let me say that I am not ever advocating anyone not going to see a medical doctor or go to a hospital and get what they need. I am saying-that all wounds are different and that some can be cared for at home and if this is the case with you and your child than the answer is learning how to adequately care for a wound at home-with an educated confidence and not spastic fear.
Tetanus is by far one of the worse and most dangerous vaccines-and I can tell you none of my children have ever received any vaccines. What I hear people saying to me (between the lines) is not that they want a tetanus shot but that they are scared of not being able to properly take care of a wound-and are therefore looking for something to back them up. This is a very real problem for natural holistic community-they end up resorting to old methods because they lack confidence in some areas. As a naturopath I can help you understand wound care and teach you how to prepare for adequately taking care of boo boos, wounds and mild lacerations.
My son fell last year on a metal rusty stove out in the woods-he had a six inch gash in his knee and I knew if I took him to the hospital that they would have forced him to get the tetanus shot. I had already had a doctor threaten me at a hospital because my other son was bit by a snake-was showing no signs of sickness (I had already treated him homeopathically) and the dr. said he was not going to let me leave with my son unless I got a tetanus! What ensued was a sort of shouting match between me and this "renegade" Starsky and Hutch type doctor and I threatened him with a lawsuit, etc. So, you can see why I now treat hospital visits with thoughtful reservation and of course-I would never want to be jailed for child neglect-(this is a touchy subject).
So, in regards to my older son and his cut on his knee, I decided to take care of it here at my home and he gratefully followed my healing schedule because he was scared to go to the hospital (he has had several traumatic and abusive experiences at the hands of hospital workers as a young child). When it was all said and done you should see how beautifully it has healed.
I have to be very careful what I say and recommend-esp. regarding vaccine-but if you are interested in my personal vaccine story buy my book and you can read about my adventures as a nurse at a pediatric office and giving vaccines, drugs etc..- Not something I am proud of but a story that needs to be shared nonetheless.
I have been invited to do some courses on it in Ann Arbor-but right now it is tentative-
For wound dressing I use a mixture of Magnesium sulfate baths, aloe, colloidal silver, homeopathy, magnetic therapy, color and sound healing.
Alot of at home healing work is based on keeping a clear head and knowing what to do. Please, keep in mind that our children are watching us and learning from us all the time. Let's work together to show them empowered thinking when it comes to health, instead of doubt and fear.
This is obviously a deep fear that all of us Mothers have and share. We can have home births and home school, but then we run and hide from a simple cut. Seeking balance in this area would be prudent.
