I was recently severely chastized on a web group for questioning Louise Hay and pointing our her contradictions in her book "You Can Heal Your Life". Some people responded with a schizophrenic "Loving" hate while others were mildly offended or disinterested. I apologized a few times, but then I realized-why are people so afraid of the truth? Why do people defend some one or something that they don't know or haven't researched? What keeps people blocked from honesty and essentially healing in their life? In essence, I was apologizing for telling the truth and bringing up a legitimate complaint. It is not a personal plot against Louise Hay but a call for honesty and non-deceptive research. Below is my critique, which I go into more fully in my book "Beyond Natural Cures". Let's get to the "heart" of the matter!
Louise mentions some common body and mind connections to illness. She conveys her personal mystical belief of how we create illnesses by giving us some examples of her personal opinion which is based on unfounded research which is throughout the book "You Can Heal Your Life"-severely contradictory. She also uses no footnotes, which I find offendingly opinionative from a woman who is neither a health care worker, naturopath or a medical doctor. I was also offended by the way she boasted about self enlightenment and healing-yet also boasted about the fact she has a child she abandonned and has never contacted. She would have made an effective case if she would have come clean with her information on a heartfelt level, instead of forcing the reader to believe she has attained a moralistic "new-age" enlightenment-that simply does not exist, or if it does, it is definitely not as she presents it.
If you are truly interested in mind body connection and making healing changes to your life-please check out Wilhelm Reichs research and the book "Man in the Trap" by Ellsworth Baker which is based on deeply founded serious research by highly credible resources. You can also read my book "Beyond Natural Cures" where I used Reich and Baker's research as a backdrop for modern healing in the holistic realm. I fill in the many gaps and holes in the whirlwind of naturopathy with poignant ideas and obscure research. You can check the book at my website www.beyondnaturalmedicine.com
