Have you heard about the puppy who swam in Michigan at Tyrone Lake and was killed- on the spot by water toxins? How about all the e-coli in Michigan's Lake St. Clair-which has made it unswimmable? And the new debate about the Great Lakes fish being unfit for consumption? Even my son was told up at Interlochen last year to lather up with tons of sun tan lotion (another poison) to keep him from catching a water parasite spread from birds-I really didn't know what was worse, the sun tan lotion or the parasite.
In almost all of these cases-we are led to believe that they are "naturally caused"- birds, algae, etc.
No one is talking about the pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers seeping into our lakes that are upsetting the eco-system and ruining our water. Even if it is just "natural" causes like algae-the truth is the fertilizers cause an extreme imbalance of phosphorous and the run off causes algae overgrowth. Last week at a lake I took my children to- the shore was aligned with perfectly manicured super green lawns. Meanwhile, the smell of pesticide was all encompassing- driving home in the car my kids smelled like they had been drenched in it.
In school I had to read several books on cancer, nuclear waste and pesticides. This makes sense to me because I used to work at an Oncology office on the East side near lake St. Clair-and what I saw there led me to write a book about it called "Beyond Natural Cures". I want to encourage others-that if you love the great lakes as much as I do, or just clean water-period. Let's all work together at cleaning them up- by stopping industrial waste...and if we can't do that- stop using cancer causing poisoned pesticides on our lawns- our children's lives are MORE important!!!!!! If it can kill a small puppy-what is it doing to humans?!
